Two continents, two people fall in love and two years later they get to say “I do” in the most beautiful location with family and friends travelling from all over the world to be by their side…
Alexi and Matthew we loved being part of your special day.
TELL US HOW YOU BOTH MET?
Lex’s family was on route to South Africa to inspect and decorate their new lodge that they had built in Kruger National Park. Lexi herself had not planned to join them but a last gasp invitation from her mother Kim to join was thankfully accepted. Lex had recently gone through very difficult time in her life and at first was reluctant to leave but couldn’t resist a trip to her favourite place on earth the game reserve.
After what turned out to be her best decision to stay at the lodge and look after her three beautiful nieces instead of joining another manic shopping excursion, it was then that she locked eyes with Matthew and then, like a lioness she moved in for the kill. After a short and sweet introduction Lex returned to Australia.
Being the persistent lady as we all know her to be, she then after a few weeks tried to make contact with the mystery man. As Matthew didn’t have a phone or use much social media, she found the task harder then she thought it would be. Yet she persisted and tried again a week later and succeeded to a husky hello. From that day on they spoke religiously for hours each day for month on end making it seem like there was no time difference and in doing so formed a bond and connection like no other.
The next step was to meet face to face to determine if the bond they created from a distance would ignite and transform into an unbreakable companionship. So Matthew planned a ten-day trip to Australia and as if it was scripted, the moment Lex walked into the airport Matthew exited the terminal and embraced Lex. It felt like they had known each other for ever and without actually verbalising it they both knew Matthew’s trip would span a lot longer than ten days.
What would usually take months and years for couples to commit themselves to each other was reached in days, and five days into his trip Matthew contacted his family to inform them of the crazy news that he would not be returning and Boba would not have to fetch him from the airport. With the unconditional love and support from his family both in South Africa and Australia, and the immediate inclusion from his new friends Matthews’s transition was seamless.
And as a year turned into 2 quickly, Matthew went from a tourist visa, to a student and completed his studies and then transitioned into his Defacto visa – which was a huge milestone for these two. In March 2019 Matthew and Lexi went back to visit South Africa for the first time since he had been in Australia. It was there in the place they first met, and the place they both love and adore the most; the game reserve, where Lexi said “YES”. And the rest is history!
DO YOU HAVE A PROPOSAL STORY?
Matthew proposed at our favourite place on earth that holds such a special place in our hearts, the African Game Reserve, the exact place we first met down by the river bed surrounded by a large heard of Elephants, it was magic
YOUR WEDDING DATE – 9th June 2019
WHAT WAS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS DATE?
No significance it was a Public Holiday the next day and a beautiful time of year for a Winter Wedding

Pier One Wharf at Pier One Sydney Harbour, right under the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and over looking the beautiful Sydney Harbour – it was pure perfection.
WHERE WAS YOUR RECEPTION HELD AND WHY THAT LOCATION?
The Bridge Marquee at Pier One Sydney Harbour. We loved the intimacy and location of this space and we always wanted a small and warm reception surrounded by our closest loved ones.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR DRESS AND WHY YOU CHOSE IT?
I wanted my dress to be modern, tight fitting and unique. I also did not want to spend a fortune as I’m not into all the glitz and glam. I found the most perfect off white mesh dress and white runway that fit my body perfectly and did not need one amendment, not even the length. I am the type of person that falls in love straight away, decides and then acts. .
HOW DID YOU APPROACH THE PLANNING OF YOUR WEDDING?
Easy breezy, we just wanted to be surrounded by our nearest and dearest with good food, good music and the aim was to spend most of the night on the dance floor!
TELL US ABOUT YOUR WEDDING STYLE AND COLOUR PALETTE.
When I think of my wedding style a Fairy tale comes to mind. There were clouds of baby breath, falling Amaranths an abundance of fairy lights. The whole spaces looked whimsical.
WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT OF THE DAY?
The Jewish wedding has a Bedecking – this is when the grooms party and all the men come chanting in a deep and moving song towards the bride and all the woman. She sits on a chair and when the groom approaches it’s the first time he has seen her in days. The raw emotion of seeing each other and the build of the chanting and clapping was overwhelming. Matthew was extremely emotional when he approached me, full of tears and I was equally as emotional as we touched faces and he then completed the Jewish ritual of placing my veil over my face confirming I was his bride and we were now ready to stand under the Chuppah and begin our ceremony.
FIRST DANCE SONG…AND WHY?
Matt Simons Catch & Release – it’s the first song we listened to together and it felt personal and fun –we danced the whole way down the long space we had and incorporated all our guest to join along the way it was magical and unplanned and spontaneous– just what we love
